A Socially Distanced Stay-cation

First, let me make one thing abundantly clearI. Hate. Germs. So much.I was the person who would wear a mask on an airplane before the pandemic. I carried hand sanitizer at all times, and refused to touch public surfaces unless absolutely necessary.Needless to say, I won’t be flying for a while. But that doesn’t mean I’m not traveling.I knew when I came back home that I wouldn’t be able to stay still for long. My feet were made to wander. So I became determined to travel in the only place I could: my state.Today, I want to tell you about the best extended stay-cation of my life! It’s been going on for months, has been perfectly socially distanced, and (honestly?) it doesn’t feel super different from a normal stay-cation.Almost like practicing basic human decency isn’t that hard…

Exploring My Home

If you read my post last week, you know all about my time at polo. For those who haven’t seen it yet, it was one of the most unique sports I’ve ever witnessed. While I was writing the piece, I played a little game with myself to see how many different, slightly crazy ways I could vaguely describe what polo is actually about.I think I’m very funny. These last few months have also seen me go on sunrise and hiking adventures with my mom. We woke up at 4am, become friends with a snake (that we almost ran over, screamed about, then quickly drove away), and got some beautiful photos to commemorate it all.I’m definitely going to talk about this more in a future article, but Jamestown is one of the most beautiful places in Rhode Island to watch the sunrise. If you can, head over to the DOT center just before the Newport Bridge and you’ll see the sun come right up over the horizon. After, drive a little further into Jamestown to watch the sun rise up over the Newport Bridge.Whether you're in RI for a little getaway or creating your own stay-cation, I promise you won’t be disappointed. As I mentioned earlier, our Rhode Island stay-cation has also consisted of a couple little hiking adventures. And when I say hiking, I mean we took a walk in nature and called it a hike. The most memorable, as you probably guessed from the snake cameo earlier, was at Fisherville Brooks Wildlife Refuge.First off, wear bug spray. The trail is on a gorgeous lake, but that means it attracts a LOT of critters. Second off, if you’re my mom, maybe take a Xanax so you don’t scream when a bug flies by.(My mom hates bugs.On that day, I learned just how much.)The trail is beautiful, relatively easy to walk, and you may even meet a nice snake on your way out!

Road Trips

Otherwise known as my main mode of travel for the next year or so. Don’t get me wrong, I still want to travel. But this pandemic has shown me that there’s so much exploring I can do here in my own backyard and still not get bored.I think you know where I’m heading with this.stay-cationCross-country road trip!I want to hit ALL the national parks, and visit friends and family I haven’t seen in years. Ideally, I would LOVE to get a campervan but they’re so expensive. As I’m sure you can guess, a trip like this would take a metric ton of planning so all the details are a little fuzzy at the moment. But a dream got me this far. What’s a little further? What do you think? Should I do it?
